Out of Classroom Experience – Mountain Survival School
We traveled up to New York State to visit The Mountain Scout Survival School run by Shane Hobel. Shane is a professional tracker who has been featured on CNN and the New York Times as a subject matter expert in all things outdoor wilderness survival. Shane enlightened the students to the most crucial thighs to consider when in an outdoor survival situation and had them participate in the process of making a fire and building shelter from scratch. This was a great compliment to the herbal walk in identifying plants as some of the students already knew the answers to some of Shane’s questions about poisonous
Students finished up their persuasive essays, learned more about footnotes and endnotes in the Chicago citation style, and experienced a selective attention test that gave them a glimpse into the incredible strengths – and limitations – of the human brain!
Science & Healthy Living
This week in Science and Healthy Living we wrapped up final presentations and the students all did a great job in their presentations.
This week students continued to progress through Code.org and Vidcode, depending on their choice. Students are building upon their existing knowledge of programming concepts such as sequence, functions, function arguments, and properties.
